The seven praiseworthy speeches in honor of the Apostle Paul
Blessed Paul, the one who gathered us all together, who enlightened the world, himself once, during his calling, blinded. But his blindness brought light to the world. Because he could not see well, God blinded him completely so that he could regain his sight in such a way as to be of use to him. Thus God gave him a proof of His power, but at the same time foreshadowed his suffering and what was to come; he taught him how to spread the gospel, but also how to follow it everywhere, removing everything from itself. For this reason, Paul himself said, "He that is wise among you may be wise, that he may be wise" (I Cor. 3:18). (Therefore, it is not possible for a man to see well, if at first he is not completely blinded, and if he does not remove the thoughts which trouble him, and does not give himself entirely to the faith.
