Since most of the letters of Saint Nile are addressed to monks and clergy, we have before us a real compendium of themes related to the practical spiritual or philocal life, which he repeatedly calls "philosophy", "living after Christ", "true", "spiritual" philosophy. The main aspect highlighted is the struggle for the purification of passions and the attainment of impassion. In this regard, Saint Nile presents in great detail most of the ascetic rules and principles of the Christian life: the cultivation of virtues, fasting, vigilance, self-denial, prayer, struggle with the passions, and so on.
