Christ suffering. Dramatic work on the saving sufferings of our Lord Jesus Christ
The tragedy of Christ suffering written by St. Gregory of Nazianzus (329-390) is the only Christian dramatic work, this edition containing the first translation into Romanian from ancient Greek. According to his biographer, St. Gregory began to write verses to oppose the order of Emperor Julian the Apostate (330-363) not to allow Christians to teach ancient literature, but also to oppose Apollinaris of Laodicea, who through his verses, he easily spread his heretical opinions. The tragedy of St. Gregory is structured as a trilogy: a) The suffering and death of Christ; b) Christ in the grave; c) The resurrection. Embellished with numerous metaphors and dogmatic ideas, the work of Christ suffering reveals to us the Savior as a divine Physician through His earthly work, culminating in the Sacrifice of the Cross and the descent into hell, and His work after the Ascension and Pentecost.
O Thou Who art come to earth for the good of the world, my beloved Son, why do you suffer...
