Saint John Mavropous is one of the most prolific Byzantine hymnographers, the genre practiced by him at the time at its peak.
John's hymnographic production is very vast and still unpublished for the most part, scattered in manuscripts through various libraries around the world. In the time in which he lived, the liturgical books of the Eastern Church were now definitively systematized, thanks to the work of the great hymnographers of the eighth century and especially of the ninth century who composed hundreds and hundreds of ordinances for the holidays with variable dates. and for the fixed ones, part of them fixed (maybe only about 15-20% of everything they wrote) in the usual service books.
