Canons of prayer to St. Nicholas, Archbishop of Myra
Saint Nicholas holds an extremely important place in the Sinaxar of the saints of the Orthodox Church. His activity in Mira Lycia where he was archbishop, as well as the many miracles he performed both during his life and after his death, made him very beloved by the faithful. His commemoration is made on December 6, and the date on which the relocation of his holy relics to Bari in Italy is celebrated is May 9.
This volume contains two series of canons on eight tones, dedicated to Saint Nicholas, composed by Saints Photius, Patriarch of Constantinople, and John Mavropous, Metropolitan of the Evhaites. Creativity together with lyrical and profound expression through the specific terminology of Greek speech make these works true poems-prayers.
