Patericul of the German Monasteries
Elder Paisie loved to read the works of the Holy Fathers. Here is his answer to the abbot Athanasius, who accused him of certain things:
"Don't say, Father Athanasius, that one or two books are enough for the salvation of the soul." Even the bee does not gather honey from a single flower, but from many. So is he who reads the books of the Holy Fathers. One teaches him the true faith, another speaks to him of silence and prayer, another tells him of obedience, humility, and patience, and another urges him to love God and neighbor. Therefore, from many patristic books man learns to live according to the Gospel.
