This volume contains all the preserved ascetic homilies and writings of Saint Simeon the Pillar of the Wonderful Mountain (521-592), being the first translation into a modern language. Saint Simeon is the best known of the pillar saints, after his namesake, named Simeon the Elder, had discovered this extraordinary ascetic way of life to the world a century before. Saint Simeon from the Wonderful Mountain has been protecting Moldova and the Neamț Lavra for more than 500 years, through his relics that are here, an invaluable scent, given to the Monastery by the Holy Voivode Stephen the Great.
St. Simeon was an early ascetic and orator, beginning his state as a pillar at the age of seven, "so that he also changed his teeth when he was on the pillar" (Evagrius the Scholastic). It was a strong support of the Orthodox faith in the Church of Antioch in the sixth century, severely tested by the spread of Monophysite heresy, Persian invasions, but also by devastating earthquakes. These words, written through the direct work of the Holy Spirit (The Life of St. Simeon, 32), spoken from the pillar from the age of 10 to 24, reveal to us a wonderful teacher of the Orthodox faith and life, so concerned with guidance. of the monks who followed him, as well as of the salvation of the whole people of God.
