This volume is an introduction to the dogmatic mindframe of St Romanos as a polemist and a writer of hymnografy and  the importance of Romanos’ theological poetry for the Orthodox Church. The author focuses on some key terms used by Romanos such as Theotokos, and he proves that the Melodist was a supporter and a defender of the Ecumenical Council of Chalcedon. The book is structured in 5 chapters meant to prove the author’s suppositions: 1. History and dogma in East and West; 2. Romanos the Melodist’ use of physis and his opinion on the heretics; 3. The theology of The Akathist Hymn; 4. Theotokos and the “orthodox thragedy”; 5. Romanos the Melodist and the “greek” wisdom.
