And this is how it happened that in my nearly thirty years of ministry in the West, both as a priest and later on as a bishop, I was very often invited to present the orthodox spirituality to heterodox gatherings. Every time I had to take into consideration the audience that had very little or no knowledge of the Orthodox Church, so I had to present the topics in a simple and didactical form, not very common to the orthodox reader. But the afterwards debates have always had a pragmatic and intimate character, with concrete examples from the lives of some great Holy Fathers or even some common believers. The examples give more insight than the abstract teachings! But the theoretical knowledge of the faith is important so we won't fall into heresy or superstition" (Archbishop Serafim, fragment from the Introductory word)
