Three times a week, on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, at dawn, after the matins' service, Saint Theodore the Studite addressed a word to his monks. The theme was very diverse, often the word being occasioned by holidays or liturgical celebrations, other times by events in the daily life of its monasteries. The total freedom they show in them and the improvised character often, but not without substance, that his catecheses have, reveals to us from the inside the principles and the way in which the great Byzantine reformer of monasticism practiced its renewal. Almost 400 catecheses have been preserved in manuscripts until today (some still unpublished), although the number of those kept was much higher, according to some calculations, until 1500. They were organized after the saint's death in 4 collections. This edition represents the first complete translation into Romanian from the ancient Greek original, of the Small Catecheses, happily continuing the collection of the Great Catecheses, already published at Doxologia.
