The Reception of The Greek Church Fathers in the West: The Contribution of John Scotus Eriugena
John Scotus Eriugena is considered the first great scholastic thinker, without whom we cannot conceive the Carolingian Cultural Renaissance. The importance and original character of Eriugena's work lie in the remarkable knowledge and effort to introduce the writings of the Greek Fathers into the Western world. When comparing the Greek Fathers to the Latin Fathers, Eriugena often likes to point out that she prefers the former, because she believes that the Greeks saw things more deeply than the Latins and knew how to express themselves more. just than these. A selection of E. Jeauneau's studies is offered here to the Romanian reader interested in the beginnings of the transfer and reception of the Greek-language theological culture in Latin, in the early Middle Ages, with a special look at the Eriugena moment.
