This volume presents the Romanian translation of three short works of Byzantine spirituality, quite close in origin, literary genre and content. These are ascetic epistles, written by three different authors, members or relatives of the circles of high Byzantine prelates from the late tenth and early eleventh centuries, in order to organize the spiritual life of their recipients, individuals or communities. .. The three works published in this volume, through their content and message come to complete the series of translations into Romanian of Byzantine ascetic texts, being of great help especially to those who even today are forced to put into practice the eternal truths of life in Christ seeks the middle way of divine virtues. ” (excerpt from the introductory study signed by Fr. “All the will you do, secretly do it and work it for God but as if you would do nothing, as if you did not work it properly, according to reason. And if you succeed in your wills, rebuke yourself forever and say to your mind: “This is my condemnation, because I do my will, and the glory of men and their praises, they strengthen me to such a need. . And those who are obedient do all that they may not want and endure any hardship that the fool would want, despised, mistreated, and dishonest. But I, as a lover of myself and diminished in soul, I ran away from obedience and now I sit here, happy to be those who obey me for my seemingly unwillingness to show. If you do so, you will consider yourself more passionate than any man and sinner, and you will miserate yourself as one who lives lazily, without fighting and distressing at least as much as the soldiers of the world, but fed and saved in vain by God, and if you add humility and love to any work, then your work is after God. ”
