On the bank of the divine river. Notes of an Orthodox
Sergei Alexandrovich Nilus (1862-1929) is a remarkable Russian writer. The son of a family of Swiss emigrants, Nilus studied law and, after graduating from the Faculty of Moscow, became a magistrate in Transcaucasia. The meeting with St. John of Kronstadt, who healed a throat infection, profoundly transformed him. In 1907, Nilus moved to the Optina Monastery, where he lived until 1912. During this time he published several spiritual books, including “On the Bank of the Divine River. The notes of an orthodox ”.
