Homilies on the Psalms
A work of maturity, the Homilies to the Psalms of St. John Chrysostom is one of the most considerable chrysostomic writings. If it had been preserved in its entirety, it would have contained several volumes. The sixty homilies that are preserved, however, make up a rather large volume. Saint Photius the Great (c. 820-897) mentions them in his Bibliotheca and compares them with the Homilies at the Creation: and examples of which St. John Chrysostom is often used , the richness of ideas and, when necessary, the vehemence of discourse. To put it briefly, everything, the discourse, the division, the method, the choice of ideas and all the other qualities are combined in the highest degree in these comments ”.
