Calist Angelicoudes is one of the prolific hesychastic writers of the fourteenth century, with an impressive but little known work. He founded a monastery in Northern Macedonia, at Melenic, from which he was nicknamed Melenichiot, a monastery raised to the rank of stavropighie, in 1370, at his request, by the Hesychast Patriarch Filotei Kokkinos. Calist is known as the author of a collection of thirty Hesychastic words and treatises, reunited under the title Hesychastic Comfort and preserved entirely in the manuscript Vaticanus gr. 736 and, partially, in other codes, of which only the XXIIth Word was assimilated in the Philocalium, with the title The Craft of Peace.
