The new Martyr Alexei of Elnat the madman for the love of Christ
Among the many new martyrs of Russia in the twentieth century - in addition to monks or members of the priesthood - were many lay priests. One such man was Alexei Ivanovich Voroshin. In trying to live an exemplary, Christian and uncompromising way of life, he distinguished himself by the difficult endeavor to be insane in the love of Christ, an attitude considered risky, given that he lived in the 1930s, a period in which which Soviet cruelty was unmatched1. At the same time, he kept his faith and was crowned with a martyr's death in 1937. While his persecutors have long been forgotten, a significant wave of pilgrims is currently visiting the blessed relics of the blessed in the city of Ivanovo. .
