The Blessed Wreath of the Christian Year. A world premiere editorial release

At their first worldwide appearance, Father Placide’s sermons have been joined together into a fourth volume of the author collection of Father Placide Deseille. The “Doxologia” Publishing House is bringing into the readers’ attention a surprising book; a book addressing to the large public – clergy and faithful (both initiated or not), who desire to deepen their knowledge or to discover new meanings of the Evangelical passages read during the Holy Liturgy through the perspective of a Catholic monk (from Western Europe) converted to Orthodoxy. This is what “The Blessed Wreath of the Christian Year” of Father Placide Deseille is all about.

Translated from French to Romanian by Felicia Dumas

This is what “The Blessed Wreath of the Christian Year” of Father Placide Deseille is all about.  The book has been translated from French to Romanian by Felicia Dumas.

Archimandrite Placide Deseille is one of the greatest contemporary Orthodox theologians and in the mean time a spiritual father that is sought by the faithful from both Eastern and Western Christianity. He is known in the whole world for his spectacular, unexpected conversion to Orthodoxy (of which he talks in his book “A Testimony of an Orthodox Monk”, Doxologia Publishing House, 2011) and he is very much appreciated for his books of live theology, applicable to everyday life. Father Placide has been a Catholic monk, but as a result of a constant study of patristic theology he has converted to Orthodoxy. He is pasturing now the Monastery of Saint Anthony the Great and the Solan Monastery in France, metochios of Simonos Petras Monastery of Mount Athos.

“The Blessed Wreath of the Christian Year” includes numerous sermons that had been held by the author in the last 10-15 years throughout the ecclesiastical year, on Sundays and on Feast days, in the two monasteries. The book, which presents in an accessible style a profound spiritual content, is divided in six sequences that underline their ordering according to different times of the year (the beginning of the liturgical year, Christmas Lent, The Epiphany, Great Lent, Easter and the post Pentecost period). All of these represent “simple and familiar catecheses, understandable to everybody”, as the author himself says. The book of Father Placide Deseille, “The Blessed Wreath of the Christian year”, will certainly attract the readers through its obvious, clear and concise perspective of his sermons, through its oral character that was kept in writing and mostly through its novelty, vigor and priceless spiritual authenticity.

The volume adds to the previous three titles from the author series of Father Placide Deseille that have been published by Doxologia Publishing House: “A Testimony of an Orthodox Monk – a dialogue between Jean Claude Noye and Father Placide Deseille”, “The Faith in the Unseen One” and “Orthodox Monachism. The main Principles and the Practice”, which have had a great success among readers.
